Online Opinion Piece
Below is my opinion piece, you will find what I think about illegal immigration and all the problems that i has brought to The United States. Also included here are the various solutions that i think will end the problem that the country has.
There are many current issues in the United States that create a lot of controversy, abortion, and gay rights are among the hot topics, but I think that there is one that indeed creates a lot more talking and debate than the ones I previously mentioned. Illegal immigration is to me the topic that following the economy has people talking the most. Millions of undocumented immigrants currently live in the United States, the massive number of illegals in the country has added on to the endless budget and deficit problems that the United States is currently facing. The United States immigration system is broken and we as a country need to come up with a comprehensive solution that will secure our borders and protect the citizens of the country.
I think that illegal immigration affects all of the people of the United States, but especially us that live in border towns. It is an issue that has created debate for many years and that has recently picked up more momentum. Illegal immigration creates lots of headaches for local, state, and federal governments all over the country. These people also known as “illegal aliens” are contributing to the ever increasing debt of the United States. The come and work, use our hospitals and schools, and yet don’t pay a single penny in taxes. Even if these people have not committed a crime during stay here they have already broke the law, they crossed the border in an illegal manner. And the worst part is that they want amnesty! Excuse me, they want to get rewarded for breaking the law I don’t think so. They need to understand that they broke a law and need to make up for what they did. And yes I can imagine what so many people are thinking, “this guy is of Mexican descent and he is against his own people, or he is racist and is profiling illegals”. Well no I am not doing that, I am just a son of immigrants, legal by the way, that first of all is as patriotic as one can be, as I was born here, and second of all because I see how people abuse the system. Those reasons are what has prompted me to speak up and really express how I feel about the situation of illegal immigration. I am not against legal immigration, if you want a better life for your children and yourself go ahead and come to our country that’s what my parents and grandparents did, just don’t take advantage of what is given to you. I am in favor of securing our borders, we need to make sure that these people that are trying to break the law get the message, either you do it legally or you don’t do it at all. We need more agents and specialized technology that will prevent the illicit activity. In addition to this I would like to see tougher sanctions on repeat offenders and for the ones that have committed crimes in U.S soil. And last but not least no amnesty what so ever. It is ridiculous to think that people that broke the law are fighting to be rewarded and the worst part is that even some of our lawmakers approve of this.
In the end the issue of illegal immigration will continue being a hot topic, and it will always have people, and lawmakers talking and debating about what they should do to fix the countries damaged immigration system.
